I purchased this book for my 8 year old granddaughter. It said that the author worked to write books to develop reading skills of young readers. When I first looked at the book when it arrived, I was a bit skeptical about some of the words, wondering if my young reader would be able to manage them. When the grandchildren were here visiting I got out the book and had my 8 yr. old read it. When she came to a word she did not know I told her to take time and sound it out. Well, she did just that! She read along then stopped from time to time, sounded out the word, then continued to read! I was pleased!
The pics are real and colorful, and subject matter was sweet and natural, something my own grandchildren would encounter, as they live at our farm’s homestead. It’s so nice to see real subjects being used in children’s books so that children are exposed to the real world. City children do not get to have or experience these ‘natural’ encounters as country children do. They need to know that country living is truly sweet and comforting, as well as rewarding. .
The author used many adjectives to challenge the readers, which teaches vocabulary! This is another advantage to using a good author that is insightful in how to write for students of a particular age. Thumbs up from me!
